The camouflage of the owl and the tree stump is what inspired me to do this painting. The tree stump has been struck by lightening and left to rot bringing out these beautiful colours in the wood, which is echoed in the Tawnys feathers. The burning stare of the Tawny is emphasised by the burn marks on the wood. The Tawny is so apart of his surroundings that he could almost go unnoticed.
